About & sources
unemployed.nz is a free, independent public-good guide for people in Aotearoa who have lost their job, been made redundant, or are at risk. It isn't a government agency, has no ads, no accounts, and doesn't collect your data. The calculators run entirely in your browser.
How we keep it accurate
- Every dollar figure lives in one file with its source. Benefit rates are those effective 1 April 2026.
- We cite Work and Income and Employment New Zealand directly, not blogs.
- Where something depends on your circumstances, we say so and point you to the agency.
- Spotted an error? Email help@unemployed.nz and we'll fix it.
