Subject: Could you write me a short recommendation?
Hi [Name], I hope you're doing well. As you may have heard, I'm looking for a new role after [Company]'s restructure. I really valued working with you on [project or situation]. Would you be willing to write a short LinkedIn recommendation, or a reference letter I can share? A few lines about [what it was like to work with me / the result of X / my skills in Y] would be great. If it's easier, I can send a draft for you to edit. I'm happy to do the same for you. Thank you, [Your name]
Tips
- A draft makes it easy for people to say yes. They can edit it.
- Use LinkedIn recommendations for visibility and a signed letter for applications.
- Offer to return the favour.
- Ask 3 to 5 people, so you still have a few if some are slow.
